Plasma Pen Skin Tightening

The world's most advanced, non-invasive rejuvenation device used to rid the skin of superficial lines & wrinkles, skin tags, scars, stretch marks & more. This treatment can be used for a number of procedures to dramatically enhance the appearance of your skin without the need for costly & invasive surgery all performed by a licensed and certified plasma fibroblast technician.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROCEDURE AND ITS BENEFITS

This treatment has many different titles: Fibroblast Skin Tightening, Fibroblast Wrinkle Remover, Fibroblast Plasma Lift, Plasma Pen Mole/Specks Remover, etc. They all refer to the same treatment administered with the plasma pen and convey the versatility of this revolutionary technology. Using a plasma pen and under topical anesthetic cream, an electrical arc is discharged from the plasma pen without actually touching the skin. At the multiple treated areas where the plasma pen is used, the discharge leaves micro-injuries in the skin which heal in form of dots. The skin around the dots naturally shrinks to heal the micro-injuries which triggers the skin regeneration process. You will likely see immediate tightening and lifting, especially if you have crepe-like skin.

PLASMA PEN AFTERCARE & POST TREATMENT GUIDELINES

Please ensure you read and follow the medical advice provided. If you have any concerns after your treatment, if you do not understand any area of your aftercare or if you have additional questions then please do not hesitate to contact your technician - text (954) 697-3467 or (850) 960-0429.

Like most skin rejuvenation treatments, there may be some side-effects but the post-treatment downtime and recovery from Plasma Pen - plus the end result - is frequently shown to be far superior to treatment versus with other devices. However, we are not in control of what you do when you leave, and you must follow these important guidelines carefully if you wish to have optimal results and protect your investment in Plasma Pen treatment.

BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT:

Please come to your appointment with freshly cleansed skin, that's it! You may take an anti-histamine 1 hour prior to your appointment, this can help with swelling, you can continue to take an anti-histamines for 2-3 days following your appointment & please avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to your appointment.

  • Avoid sun-tanning, spray-tanning, tanning injections and sunbeds for 4 to 6 weeks before your treatment. Ideally, we recommend using SPF-30 and higher to prep your skin for 2 to 4 weeks before your treatment, especially if you are naturally darker skinned. You may even wish to consider a Pre-Treatment product using a Tyrosinase Inhibitor as this can help prevent overproduction of pigment in the skin. Tyrosinase Inhibitors are not just useful for those who suffer from hyperpigmentation but for all clients – even those with healthy, lighter skin tones.

  • Avoid any other type of procedures for 3-4 weeks on the same area which you intend to have treated with Plasma Pen, such as laser therapy, chemical peels, botox/fillers, as this may delay your treatment from being performed.

  • Discontinue any use of topical Retin-A products a minimum of 4 days prior to treatment.

  • Remove contact lenses and any eyelash extensions prior to treatment.

PRE-TREATMENT CHECKLIST:

  • We recommend taking a high dose of Vitamin C supplements along with Magnesium Citrate, Zinc and Copper two (2) weeks before treatment and twelve (12) weeks over the course of the healing process as this will help give your immune system a big boost. In turn this will help your skin to repair and helps avoid hyper-pigmentation.

      Emergen-C is a great option.

  • Set up an area in your bathroom that is clean to apply products to your skin that were provided. Have some Q-tips available if the eye area is treated to clean the eyelashes without getting the area treated wet.

  • You may want to use eye drops if the eyes feel irritated. If and when doing so, tip your face so that the eye drop comes out by the nose, use a tissue to gently blot in order to avoid getting the area treated wet. Make sure to use a fresh bottle eye drops or use the single portion sterile drops.

FIBROBLAST HEALING GUIDE

• The healing cycle takes approximately 12 weeks to complete

The most tightening and lifting happens in weeks 6-8

• Improvements may continue for up to 6 months

Immediately following treatment, we recommend applying small amounts of Silver Gel (morning, noon and evening) to soothe inflamed skin and promote healing. Approximately 1 week after treatment, the scabs from the dots will begin to fall off revealing multiple pink dots in their stead which will gradually fade over time. Face dots shed approximately 4-10 days following treatment (average client begins to shed dots on day 5, 6 or 7). Dots on the body often take longer than the face, potentially around 2 weeks. New skin is often pink from a few days to the entire 3 months (rare), fading daily until returning to original coloration. After the dots shed, skin may feel tender, peel or become slightly textured. This is normal. Skin will get smoother, return to normal coloration and continue to tighten over for the next 3 months. While skin may return to its original texture and color, it takes 4 weeks for collagen and elastin production to BEGIN. It is not uncommon for the skin to slacken in the 2nd to 4th week after the procedure because the skin has healed but the collagen and elastin has not kicked in yet. Expect temporary swelling as the area is recovering from a deliberate controlled wound.  Swelling will subside in a matter of days. Ice and an antihistamine (ex: Benadryl) can minimize swelling. You will need to follow a dry healing method which means you will do your best to keep the treatment area dry until dots shed.

DO NOT PICK SCABS! Prematurely removing scabs may result in scarring and discoloration. Allow scabs to come off on their own. This will ensure the best possible result and avoid scarring, hyperpigmentation and infection. If scabs are accidentally removed, protect them by covering them with Aquaphor ointment. The longer the scabs stay put, the longer the skin has a chance to heal itself with the protection of the scab.

When using cold compresses/ice, apply to the treated area using a clean towel to cover the ice pack each use. Alternate 10 minutes on and off for up to 1 hour for the first 2 days. Keep the treated area clean using a mild, unscented, alcohol free cleanser PAT DRY- KEEP DRY! Do not apply makeup (even mineral makeup) until the scabbing has fallen off completely. This is to avoid infection or disrupting the scabs prematurely.

IMPORTANT! As stated above, avoid sun exposure and tanning beds to the treated area. Once the scabbing process is complete, always apply broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher to the area for at least 3 months after your last treatment. Healing skin can become damaged by UV rays, causing hyperpigmentation and/or premature aging.

While dry healing is best, you may safely apply Aloe Vera up to 3-times per day to help manage itchy sensations. Applying ice packs on the skin also helps manage itchiness.

  • Avoid smoking.

  • Avoid shaving over any treated area until the skin has fully healed.

  • Avoid exercising immediately after a treatment - we recommend NOT exercising after a treatment because any heat, steam or sweat could add to the inflammation already present. Ideally you want to avoid excessive sweating for 5-7 days during the healing process.

  • Do not use any pools, hot tubs/saunas until after scabs have fallen off and skin returns to a more normal state.

  • After the scabs have fallen off on their own, you may use makeup to cover any redness.

  • Avoid harsh products (like acids, peels or physical exfoliants) until 8 weeks post treatment healing point. If your skin feels ready, use a gentle enzyme exfoliant to create a smoother surface from the peeling that is typical at this stage of healing. Use of potent serums such as peptides, stem cell, or beta glucan is highly recommended to aid with moisture and tightening of skin.

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING YOUR TREATMENT:

Do NOT wash or get water over the treated areas until the skin has scabbed and the scabs fall off. Use a facial sponge with gentle (alcohol free) cleanser to clean areas of the face or neck not treated UNTIL the scabs come off. This treatment requires a “dry healing” method. If the area becomes wet while showering, gently and carefully pat dry. There may be some mild to moderate swelling to the area(s) treated, especially around the eyes and within the periorbital region - moderate to excessive swelling is expected and common. If swelling lasts beyond 7 days, contact your treatment provider. Do NOT take any anti-inflammatory medicine, such as Advil or ibuprofen for 2 weeks after your treatment. Tylenol is acceptable if needed. Use ONLY fragrance-free detergent/fabric softener on bedding post treatment. Please change your pillowcase every day or every other day for 1 week post treatment. It’s important to keep chemicals/bacteria away from the area treated while keeping the skin as clean as possible. Keep your hair pulled back from treated areas while healing.

Some clients may experience a “stinging” sensation in the treated area(s) immediately after treatment and up to 24 hours after treatment. This is normal and is heat exiting the skin. It generally only lasts for about an hour or so. The hot feeling on the area treated can be felt up to 24 hours post treatment, this is normal. After treating areas of the face, we recommend you sleep on your back with your head elevated to minimize swelling. If you have received treatment to your eye area, then it is important you sleep slightly elevated for up to 7 days as this can greatly reduce swelling. It is highly unlikely you will ever get an infection from a Plasma Pen treatment as the wound created cause is not open. However, the first 12 hours post-treatment is of vital importance in protecting you from any kind of potential infection so please avoid any activities where you could expose yourself to contaminants, meaning going to the gym, public places where you can pick up germs by touching things then touching your skin.

💡 HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

If the texture of the skin in the area of treatment is not well in the circumstances, you may need more than a single treatment to get the desired structure and look of the skin/face. Some people may benefit from one treatment, while others may require more than 2-3. Everyone's treatment outcomes are different. Once the desired results from the plasma treatment have been achieved, they will last between 3-5 years or more in some conditions.

Any additional treatments that may be required must only be performed once the skin is completely healed and has returned to its normal color - this usually takes about 12 weeks.

DO I QUALIFY FOR PLASMA FIBROBLAST?

One of the most common questions PFB Specialist hear is, "What skin conditions can I treat with this treatment?" When looking at the overall goal of plasma fibroblasting, it is to tighten/lift the skin,  which is why it is important to remember that the treatment works best on saggy/wrinkly, but healthy skin. Only then, are we able to obtain the amazing results this method can provide. In general, PFB treatment is suitable for most skin types and textures, however, contraindications do exist. The best candidates for this procedure are people with moderate-to-severe skin wrinkling concerns. We also offer a range of treatments with our plasma pen such as adjustment of lip symmetry, removal of milia, seborrheic keratosis moles, skin tags, and warts to name a few.

You shouldn’t receive plasma fibroblast therapy if you:

  • are pregnant/breastfeeding

  • have severe skin conditions (ie: eczema, psoraisis)

  • suffer from an auto-immune disorder

  • suffer from severe diabetes

  • have an open wound/active skin infection at treatment site

  • have an allergy to topical anesthetic preparations

  • have liver disease/take medication that affects liver function

  • have darker skin ranging within the fitzpatrick scale 5-6

  • are using isotretinoin for wrinkles or acne

  • undergoing chemotherapy/radiation

  • suffer from thyroid or hormonal disease

If you have a history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring, it’s recommended that you approach plasma fibroblast therapy with caution. It’s important to talk to a healthcare provider prior to the procedure to discuss your treatment goals and any potential concerns you may have regarding your overall health condition.

Everyone needs to learn as much as possible about skin and skin types so they can safely perform Plasma Fibroblast treatments and get the best possible results. For that reason we also need to pay extra attention to the Fitzpatrick scale, a numerical classification schema for human skin color that was developed in 1975 by Thomas B. Fitzpatrick, as a way to estimate the response of different types of skin to ultraviolet (UV) light.

LIGHT PALE I – FAIR WHITE II

Individuals with light pale to fair pale skin type are conducive to the usual aesthetic treatments and most of them can safely be done without the danger of adverse side effects such as hypopigmentation occurring. Naturally, proper preparation of the skin and sun avoidance is recommended after all aesthetic treatments.

MEDIUM WHITE TO OLIVE III – MID BROWN IV

Skin type III (white to olive) individuals are conducive to the usual aesthetic treatments and most treatments can safely be done without the danger such as hyper – or hypopigmentation occurring. Skin Type IV (mid brown) can be prone to an overactive production of melanin which can result in an uneven pigmentation. Proper preparation of the skin and sun avoidance is recommended before and after aesthetic treatments. This can help prevent permanent discoloration or scarring of the skin.

BROWN TO DARK BROWN V – VERY DARK BROWN VI

Brown to dark brown and very dark brown react differently, at times more severely, which can lead to potential problems with pigmentation – uneven darkening or lightening of skin color as the formation of melanin is a dynamic process and responds to various stimuli. Thus the skin is more reactive to an insult which can lead to dark marks called Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH). Skin type V – VI can also produce less pigmentation – hypopigmentation or lightened areas. There is also a greater risk of keloid scar development because darker skin has a better bed of collagen. The fibroblasts which make the collagen, are larger, more numerous and active.

In cases where you’re not quite sure, your aesthetician can perform a patch test prior to scheduling your procedure to see how the skin reacts.
